The Pompous Intellectuals of India
Aneeta Chakrabarty

aneeta_chakrabarty_thumbWelcome to a familiar story of India.  The enemy hits us and we do everything but give it a fitting reply.  For example, the satanic spooks of the Pakistani ISI armed with a hideous agenda and a killing machine regularly unleash terror and blood on the tranquil snows of Kashmir or the soft heartland of India.  In response to this macabre, decades-long assault on the Indian nation, our clueless government retorts mildly with dossiers of peace and compromise.  The Pakistanis greet us with accents that drip with loathing and contempt, but we always greet them with a brotherly eagerness yearning to be loved.

So it is not surprising that when the newly appointed Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Hina Rabbani Khar, cocks a snook at her “silly” hosts, abuses Indian hospitality and meets and greets  the vicious separatists of the valley, none less than the deeply “patriotic” Geelani and the “honorable freedom fighter” Mirwaiz Farooq.

Madam Khar has done this with impunity as she has studied the bone-headed UPA government and has decided that there will be no adverse consequences.  The government circus will continue its romantic dalliance with the pakistanis no matter what.  The fawning media will honor her with an explosion of attention led by “Headlines Today” chipping in with “All eyes on Khar” while others wax eloquent on her “stunning beauty” and exclusive fashion sense.  And the puffed up “intellectual” Mr. Bhadrakumar will opine with a very intelligent air that “She is only stopping by to have tea” as if having tea with murderers drenched in Indian blood is Okay.  And throughout all this tamasha, the gaping Indian foreign minister will check into Planet Pluto and the “energetic” sardar at the helm of affairs will routinely blink and murmur, “What? You talking to me?”

How can we explain this psychology of not retaliating, a psychology wedded to peace without honor?  Why can’t our foreign ministers do the same - meet the oppressed Shias from Gilgit and Baltistan who want to separate from Pakistan?  Why can’t they provide moral support for the freedom fighters of Baluchistan?  Why don’t they raise the denial of human rights in POK, Northern Areas and Baluchistan in every international forum or conferences the way the Pakistanis do? How would the elegant Mme. Khar react if we do the same on Pakistani soil as she has done on Indian soil?

Of course, questioning the Government’s peaceful stance (a stance that gets us nothing but blows or death), would be hailed with a firestorm of verbal abuse along with colorful labels such as right wing extremism, Hindu terrorism, RSS storm troopers, the loony right, saffron bigots and so on.  Yet, the intellectual Trojan horses who constantly spout venom against such a nationalistic discourse,  attend anti Indian seminars and present their crackpot thesis against India are considered leading luminaries embracing a burning vision of progress and prosperity.  It is sad that such men of straw shape India’s thinking.  Hollow, shallow and puffed up intellectuals who have no love for their motherland, whose heart bleeds for the terrorist, but not for the beheaded or murdered jawans or the bullet-ridden, mutilated men and women who pay the price for the elitist indifference.

Meanwhile, India did get its feel-good moment when the ISI spook Ghulam Nabi Fai received the hospitality of the cloak and dagger FBI exposing the “self-righteous” secularists.  Suddenly the mighty intellectuals who had lectured from lofty pedestals tumbled into reality’s hard terrain desperately looking for their lost credentials.  Suddenly the likes of Dilip Padgaonkar, Angana Chatterjee, and Ved Bhasin started feigning ignorance about the nature of the meetings held by Fai even when some of them were denouncing India and advocating treason. Even the deaf and the dumb would figure that the belligerent ideology of hate, the frothing venom, and the torrent of hostility emanating from these conferences is anything but pro-India.  However, such logic eluded the eminent minds of our leading intellectuals for several decades.

The UPA government as usual failed to seize the moment to knock Pakistan off their diplomatic high ground and demand that Kashmir stay off limits for any talks unless the “affaire Fai” is resolved. However, addicted to the peace pipe, the venerable Sardar will continue to flirt dangerously with Islamic hardliners. Thus, we can expect more of the same peace talks on soft borders, compromises on Siachen, visas for terrorists, and cricket matches much like a blind donkey going round and round in circles.

The astoundingly evil genius of the ISI to create a bomb-laced India will continue to gain momentum until the blind donkey will suddenly realize that it is poised on a steep political precipice.  And this time, even the useful idiots, the pompous intellectuals of the land will not be able to put the humpty-dumpty Congress back together again.  Then and then only will there be salvation for India and hopefully the unfinished business of Partition.

Very Good article, it expresses my thoughts very eloquently. As long we have vermin like the Congress party and the self styled pseudo intellectuals India will never earn any respect from International forums. Little wonder in spite of its wealth we are steeped in poverty - truly a cursed nation.
